Bad News, Bears

Today was a visit to my primary care physician. He wants me to take a stress echo cardiogram immediately, because I have had acute angina in the past few months. I found out that it costs $2k. I delayed the stress echo cardiogram until a month from now, because I don't know how I will pay for it, and I don't feel right incurring a debt that I cannot pay.

Money v. living. That's a tough question.

How soon do the provisions of the healthcare reform kick in?

  1. I can relate to this, I extended my COBRA coverage as long as I could (11/09) thinking my Medicare was going into effect in March 1020, but learned it doesn't go into effect until 9/2010. I can't afford doctor visits or medicine until then, it's a good thing I had a little back stock.

  2. The other thing about heart tests, is that they are only as good as the day they are taken which can be very deceiving to the cardiologist. It happened to me after being in the hospital for tests for three days), they released me and told me to go to my primary care doctor a week later for a checkup. While waiting in his office I got real dizzy and sweating profusly and asked if I could lay down while I wait for the doctor. The nurse checked my pulse while walking me back and hooked me up to an EKG machine. My pulse was 166 and my EKG was off the chart, they had to call 911 from the doctor's office to take me to the hospital. I had heart surgery a few days later.
